Rhod and I played a lot of foursomes together and he was the best partner you could ever wish to have. His patience as I would constantly risk wrecking his card or match was boundless.
I have often told people he was the best player I've ever played with. He just made the game look so easy with a simple effortless swing but mighty power, a seemingly horizontal attitude but a deep desire to win.
Rhod introduced me to the books of Bob Rotella. Looking back at them they could have been written about him; taking things in your stride, loving life and the challenge and always, always staying positive. About everything.
I cant count the number of times he'd convince me that things were going to work out. "Just get it to 10ft and I'll hole the putt" he'd say. "But Rhod, I dont think I can" I'd reply. "Anywhere on the green then, I'll hole it, infact, I'm going to hole it whatever you do so dont worry". He usually did.
In one match we had a 2 on the par 4 10th. Rhod drove it 340 odd yards and to not far from the flag. I holed it but he wouldnt have it any other way in the bar afterwards that this was a team game and a joint effort. Such was the class of the man.
I'll miss Rhod greatly but will always count myself lucky to have golfed with him and had him as a friend, and will always think of him and smile. Cheers Rhod.
